A broadleaf evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean. Trunks have grayish bark which flakes to reveal reddish-brown inner bark. Aromatic, pinkish-white flowers lead to interesting looking fruits that change from yellow to red. Ripe fruits look similar in size and color to strawberries but lack flavor.
Sun: Full sun or partial shade.
Soil: The strawberry tree likes acidic, alkaline, loamy, moist, sandy, well-drained, and clay soils. It does best in well-drained areas that do not experience severe drought.
Water: Regular winter rains are often enough to keep the strawberry tree properly watered. Established plants need deep watering from time to time during the summer and fall.
Zones: 7 to 10.
Height/Spread: The strawberry tree grows to a height of 15 to 30 feet wide the same sized spread.
