Anise is famous for its licorice flavor and its seeds are used as a spice in cooking or as a flavoring for baking. Its leaves can be eaten in salads and have been used for flavoring as well. It is advised against growing basil, carrots or rue near anise. Anise is an annual plant.

Sun: Anise plants need full sun.

Soil: Well-drained soil. Anise requires a fairly alkaline soil pH of 6.3 to 7.0.

Water: Growing anise needs regular water until the plants are established and then can tolerate periods of drought.

Height/Spread: Anise will grow to be 2 to 4 feet tall.

Zone: 4 to 9

Potential Pests: Anise is susceptible to the larvae some butterflies and moths, lime-speck pug and wormwood pug. Anise is attractive to predatory wasps and repels aphids.
